A fabulous Prague attraction, the King Charles IV statue situated in Prague is one of the most visit-worthy historical sights of the city. Modelled by the designer, Arnost Hähnel, the figurine and its pedestal are both about four meters tall. King Charles was the founder of the Charles University, which was established in around the mid-1300s. Perhaps that is why the King Charles IV statue has a founder’s charter of the Charles University in one hand. If you look closely, you will notice that the pedestal of this Prague attraction bears the symbols of four different faculties. These are as follows: law, theology, philosophy and medicine. Surprisingly, this sculpture was not unveiled until the mid-1800s.
Many Czech Republic locals and visitors understand the complexity of the various forms of already-existing architectures. As seen in Prague and other parts of the Czech, statues were built using the same bunch of architecture styles. Neo-Gothic in nature, the King Charles IV statue is right inside the Knights of the Cross Square. This square is part of the Old Town, a unique part of the city. Close to the square and the statue is the Charles Bridge, another crucial part of the history of Prague. The bridge was built under the backing of King Charles too, initially the only method of crossing the Vltava river. In short, there could not have been a better place to contain the King Charles IV statue.
To get to the Knights of the Cross Square, one could take the metro from the green line A, destined to stop at the Staromestska station. Otherwise, you could reach the same station or the Karlovy Lazne station by hopping onto tram number 17 or 18. If you would rather travel by foot, trying to absorb all that is there in sight, you could easily reach the Knights of the Cross Square and the King Charles IV statue, by walking to the Prague Castle from the Old Town Square. Sandwiched in between the Charles Bridge and the Karlova street, is this majestic piece of Prague attraction that never seems to age.
